Newton's Laws of Motion (Interactive Notebook work); EXAMPLE NEWTON'S NOTES HERE

Physics phenomena as explained by a cat video!

Today we're going to be working together in our interactive notebooks to further explain the physics of motion.

In honor of the Superbowl this weekend, we'll use football as a way to demonstrate Newton's Laws of Motion.

1.Newton's 1st Law: An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.

So what happens when an outside force is applied to an object? Newton's 2nd Law explains...

2.Newton's 2nd Law: The force acting on an object is equal to the mass of that object times its acceleration (m x a)

Now that we know how a massive body in an inertial reference frame behaves when it subjected to an outside force, what happens to the body that is exerting that force? That situation is described by Newton's 3rd Law...

3.Newton's 3rd Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
