-BRING YOUR TEXTBOOKS TO CLASS TODAY!
Please have your interactive notebooks out & ready!

A word about CED Wednesday 10/14/15 (schedule)

-Tutorial this Thursday only (I'll be in C13)

-Stamp 2.1 worksheet if completed (& glue in right side page)

-Review answers to Chapter 2.1 Classifying Matter worksheet

Reminder: do left side color processing as ongoing homework!

(Note taking: Right Side)
-Chapter 2.2 Physical Properties 10/12/15
Learning Objective: I can describe examples of physical properties and give evidence that indicates when a physical change is taking place.

A physical property is any characteristic of a material that can be observed or measured without changing the composition of the substances in the material.

Physical properties are used to:
1) identify a material
2) choose a material for a specific purpose
3) separate the substances in a mixture

Examples of physical properties:
viscosity - a liquid's resistance to flowing
conductivity - material's ability to allow heat to flow
malleability - ability of a solid to be shaped without                               shattering
hardness - can it mark/scratch another material?
melting point - the temperature at which a substance changes from solid to liquid
boiling point - temperature at which a substance boils
density - the ratio of the mass of a substance to its volume; can be used to test a substance's purity
density=mass/volume
